Taylor Swift to be honoured with ‘Artist of the decade’ at 2019 AMAs
Swift holds the highest number of AMA wins by a female performer and is also the highest winning artist of the decade. King of Pop, Michael Jackson is the only other artist to have won more than Sift with 24 wins to Swift’s 23.
The ‘Lover’ singer is the only other artist to receive this award since Gareth Brooks in 2000. In addition to receiving her award, she will also perform a medley of some of her greatest hits.
Swift has won artist of the year four times and currently has five nominations at this year’s AMA.
“Taylor’s impact on music this decade is undeniable, and her performances on the American Music Awards have been truly spectacular,” Dick Clark Productions executive Mark Bracco said in a statement. “We’re thrilled to honor her as our Artist of the Decade and can’t wait for her to blow everyone away with an epic, career-spanning performance unlike any other!”
This year, she has been nominated for Artist of the Year, Favourite Pop/Rock Female Artist and Favorite Adult Contemporary Artist. Her hit ‘You Need to Calm Down’ is up for Favorite Music Video while her latest album, ‘Lover’, is nominated in the Favourite Pop/Rock Album category.
