Tekno tells it all to Daddy Freeze – losing his voice, having surgery, Lola Rae, Ubi Franklin and Iyanya controversy & more [Video]

If you think Tekno has been on the quiet side for some time now, then you are on to something.

The singer, who recently collaborated on Beyonce’s curated album, The Lion King: The Gift, opened up to OAP Daddy Freeze, where he revealed that lots have going on in his life.

According to Tekno, he lost his voice, absolutely the worst thing that could happen to a singer, for as award-winning singer Yemi Alade put it, “Of what use am I if I have no voice?

So serious stuff.

According to Tekno, he had to fly to London when things got serious, and then to the US. At the time, Tekno announced that he had acid reflux and he said a doctor told him it was pretty serious and the irritation affected his vocal cords.

He kept cancelling shows, spending thousands of dollars on consultancy both online and offline. At some point, the singer said, he had to go quiet for 3 weeks, using an app to communicate with others.

Tekno also revealed that it was also around that that a photo of him and Drakemade made the rounds on social media. Unfortunately, they couldn’t make music together because of the situation with his voice.

Eventually, it was decided that he had to get some surgery after a series of gruesome tests. Surgeons had to install a metallic substance to prevent stomach acid from flowing back into his oesophagus. In fact, the surgery was what enabled him to participate in Beyonce’s project.

The singer confirmed to Daddy Freeze that he is no longer with Triple MG, and when asked if he’s going back, he answers: “hell no”. He also disclosed that the label was getting 60% of all his profits, adding that he doesn’t know if “Iyanya got anything”.

He’s said he’s not going to say anything about the Ubi Franklin (the CEO of MMMG) and Iyanya’s war of words, adding that if he’s ever going to say anything, it’ll be crazy. Also according to him, he wasn’t happy when Iyanya called out Ubi, saying there was a time it made sense to call him out, not when everything had been settled.

He disclosed that 2 years into his deal with MMMG, he wanted to leave because a lot of things were going on and he couldn’t say who was to blame but Paul Okoye (previously of Psquare) stepped in and cooled things off. He said it would have made sense if Iyanya had spoken up at the time.

Tekno also used the opportunity to reveal he’s now running his own record label – Cartel.
