Will Smith sued over biopic about Venus and Serena Williams’ father

Will Smith has been dragged to court over an upcoming biopic about tennis stars, Venus and Serena Williams’ father.

Will Smith’s production company and Warner Bros. are among the parties that have been sued over ‘King Richard’, the movie about the life of tennis legends, Venus Williams and Serena Williams.

‘King Richard’ is also based on a 2014 memoir titled ‘Black and White: The Way I See It.’ which was written by Richard Williams.

Here’s what happened: According to a report by Deadline, TW3 Entertainment and Power Move Multi Media filed a complaint in a Los Angeles court that they already bought the right to ‘Black and White: The way I See It’.

The complaint states that they bought it for the paltry sum of $10,000 three years ago from Williams’ son and business partner Chavoita Lesane.

Lesane was reportedly given a limit power of attorney over the book for the purpose of dealing with film and media rights for the book.

The problem arose, however, as Williams sold the rights to the same book to Warner Bros. for one million dollars. Despite all these legal problems, the film is still on course for a late 2021 release.

Smith is joined in the cast by Aunjanue Ellis, Demi Singleton, Saniyya Sidney, Jon Bernthal, Liev Schreiber, and Dylan McDermott.
