Charles Okpaleke and Ramsey Nouah working on Jaja of Opobo film

Charles Okpaleke and Ramsey Nouah have announced acquiring the rights to make a King Jaja of Okpobo film from the present ruler of Opobo.

In an Instagram post, Okpaleke expressed his desire to continue to tell African stories as he has successfully done in recent times by producing films such as “Living In Bondage: Breaking Free”, “Rattle Snake: The Ahanna Story”, and “Nneka the Pretty Serpent”. He has also bought the rights to remake the Nollywood classic film “Glamour Girls”.

“There’s a lot about our history needed to be showcased [sic],” he explained as the reason why he is so invested in making these kinds of films.

He also mentioned that prolific Nigerian actor-turned-director, Ramsey Nouah was also involved in the acquisition and will no doubt play a part in the film’s making. The duo had served as producer and director respectively in the remakes of “Living In Bondage” and “Rattlesnake” (new titles mentioned above).

“… we have acquired the rights to tell the famed story of King Jaja from an authentic perspective,” Charles Okpaleke continues. He said that they had obtained the rights from the sitting ruler of the land, “King Dandeson Douglas, Jeki V (5th on the throne), during the sesquicentennial celebration of Opobo Kingdom.”

Both the producer and Nouah profess that their film will contain “the authentic account of the eventful life of” the famed ruler who was a merchant prince and the founder of Opobo.

Charles Okpaleke is popularly known as Charles of Play and he is the CEO of the production company Play Network. It also has a live concert planned for 3 April 2021 for singer Asa in Transcorp Hilton, Abuja.

On the other hand, Ramsey Nouah is making a rarely seen transition into a directorial role and pulling off the King Jaja of Opobo film will further advance his reputation as a director. We simply can’t wait for what they will deliver.
