Nadia Farmiga was born in Clifton, New Jersey, in the United States of America. During World War II, her maternal grandparents were affected and fell in love while in a displaced person camp in Karlsfeld, Germany. Nadia’s father’s name was Mykhailo, aka Michael Farmiga, who was a Computer System Analyst and later turned into a landscaper. Her mother’s name is Lubomyra Farmiga, a former receptionist and a medical records manager at Whitehouse Station Family Medicine. Luba also worked as a bank officer at National Westminster Bank (1993-1995).
Michael and Luba relocated from Ukraine to Irvington, New Jersey, searching for a better life before the birth of their first daughter, Vera. Though Nadia and her siblings grew up in the US, they didn’t know how to speak English until much later in their lives. Their parents were particular about keeping them rooted in their Ukrainian culture; as a result of this, they raised them in a tight Ukrainian-American circle, where they spoke Ukrainian as their first language.
The children grew up in a Ukrainian Catholic home, but they converted to American Pentecostalism eventually. Nadia’s parents also moved around a lot. After they lived in Irvington, they moved to Newark and later settled down on a large farmland in Wilmington. The girls got acquainted with nature and traditional communal living and developed a love for animals.

Taissa made her stage debut in the off-Broadway revival of the drama play Buried Child (2016). Since her 2011 debut, she has appeared in almost 30 projects and has a Fright Meters Awards nomination for Best Actress.
Being the last of seven children, Taissa had a markedly different experience than her older siblings. Although she attended public school like the rest of her siblings, that didn’t go on for too long, as her parents decided to homeschool her. Based on this training, she has a higher English proficiency and even spent four years learning American Sign Language. However, she isn’t as fluent in Ukrainian as her older siblings.
Farmiga owns a home in Los Feliz, Los Angeles, and in May 2019, she was reported to be engaged to screenwriter and director Hadley Klein. They were married in an intimate ceremony at their home on 8 August 2020.

Interestingly, before she ventured into acting, dancing was her first love. Due to her Ukrainian roots, Vera fell in love with the traditional folk dance. Her passion for dancing pushed her to become a member of a folk-dancing group called Syzokryli, and they toured the country in 1991.
