Doctor cupid: 5 ways to know when it’s time to break up with someone you love

Love is a complicated and wonderful thing but it can also be extremely taxing and emotionally draining.

For this reason, it is very important to maintain a sense of self in every relationship and to always be aware in order to know when the relationship is no longer serving you so that you can move on.

Dating is really about finding out if you are compatible with someone else, enough to go further with them – as far as marriage but sometimes not.

Sometimes, you are completely convinced that it is time to break up with your partner. For whatever reason, you just know that it is time to go your separate ways.

Other times though, you’re unsure. You find yourself wondering if it’s all in your head or if you should break it off now and move on, especially if you’re still in love with your partner.

There are some signs you can look out for that will help you move closer to finding out if it’s just time. Some of them are outlined below:

1. You don’t get what you need from your partner

Everyone has basic needs from everyone and everything that they interact with. Love, trust, commitment, and many other things. It may even be that your partner does not understand your love language, which can be a big deal.

If you are not getting what you need from your relationship, then it is only a matter of time before you seek those needs elsewhere. Before that happens, consider ending it so that your relationship does not have to end on a bad note.

2. Your friends and family oppose your relationship

Yes, sometimes friends and family may be toxic and that’s on them if they don’t like your partner. However, if your friends and family are loving and supportive people who simply feel that there are one or two things amiss, then take it seriously.

Your deep affection for them might blind you to their flaws but those who love you most will be able to tell if they are good for you or not.

Of course, they might be wrong, but it’s always important to be careful, especially with someone you’re head over heels for.

3. Your partner is abusive

This is an incredibly valid reason to break off the relationship, whether you love them or not. If your partner is emotionally or physically abusive, then don’t think twice about it. Run.

Reach out to someone you love and trust and get the help that you need. You must never let anyone trick you into staying into an abusive relationship as that can be extremely damaging to both your mental and physical health and sometimes lead to death.

In summary, if you are being abused in your relationship, then run far away and make sure to get justice.

4. There is no trust in your relationship

Trust is one of the most important things in any relationship and as such, any relationship without it is practically dead.

If you and your partner don’t trust each other, then what is the point of being together? What is your relationship built on? You must either find a way to build trust between yourselves or leave.

5. Your relationship is one-sided

No matter how much you love someone, it is entirely possible that they don’t love you in return or as much as you do them.

If that happens, you will notice and feel drained, as if you are giving too much away in the relationship without getting enough in the relationship.

If you notice that your relationship is one-sided, then it may be time to call it a day. Find someone who loves and cherishes you in return and is not afraid to show it. This will boost your self-esteem, in fact.

In conclusion…

If you have examined your relationship and found that one or more of these are present in the relationship, then it may be signs that you and your partner have reached the end of the road.

Don’t be afraid to let things go. It is from the ashes of the old things that new things grow. Don’t forget to share your thoughts on this article in the comments section below.
