Doctor Cupid: What to do if you and your partner are on opposing sides of the #EndSARS protest

Across the country, the protests to call for an end to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) continue despite several calls by the government for youths to stop.

The youths, however, will not stop, until visible changes are made within the police force in order to stop brutality, extortion, and harassment of youths.

As people fight for SARS to end, they do it for themselves and for generations to come. But of course, there are people who may choose (for whatever reason) to go against the protest.

If your spouse is one of these people, then it will cause no small conflict in your home and in your relationship.

You have one of so many ways to deal with the issue, as it is a lot deeper than the mere matter of debating favourites between BBNaija housemates.

  1. You can choose to ignore the subject and not discuss the subject of your SARS opinions. However, you should bear in mind that this will become a problem for your children as well if you don’t fight it.
  2. You can choose to discuss only select parts of the movement with each other. But you have to think about it: does this make sense? No, it does not.
  3. You can also choose to get a divorce if you disagree about too many such important things. Before you can do this though, you must think deeply about the decision and if it is worth it. Alternatively, you can get the services of a therapist.

Relationships are hard work, and there are some problems that will prove to be insurmountable. Several options are open to you, like the ones above.

However, before you make permanent decisions, think about it very well and ensure that it is the right thing to do.

Don’t forget to let us know in the comments section if this helped you.

  1. If you and your partner seriously disagree over #EndSARS, there is something faundamentally wrong in your relationship, which needs to be fixed.
