After the previous Vice Chancellor, Oluwatoyin Ogundipe was removed from his position by the school’s governing council, a series of protests erupted in UNILAG that put the school in the news.
While Ogundipe is working to challenge his removal, Folasade Ogunsola will work in his stead in a temporary capacity.
According to Punch, Ogunsola secured 135 of 167 votes to secure the position. She is also well accomplished and is a graduate of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) medical school.
She has also received a master’s degree in Medical Microbiology from the University of Lagos, as well as a PhD from the University of Cardiff.
Ogunsola is also a professor in Clinical Microbiology and was UNILAG’s first female provost of the College of Medicine. She is a renowned Medical Scientist with specialization in the treatment and control of HIV/AIDS.
According to her biography on the World Health Organization, Ogunsola was a founding member of the Nigerian Society for Infection Control in 1998 and is a member of the Global Infection Prevention and Control Network.
