APGA candidate, Umeh, clinches Anambra Central senatorial seat

The candidate of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Victor Umeh has been declared the winner of the rerun of the senatorial elections for Anambra Central federal constituency.

Umeh beat 13 other candidates to win the election held on Saturday 13th January following the cancellation of the 2015 election that saw the return of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Mrs Uche Ekwunife as the winner.

Umeh who was declared the winner on Sunday morning polled 64,879 votes of the 67,872 total votes that were cast yesterday. His nearest opposition was the APC candidate who polled 975 votes.

Other parties that also garnered votes in the election are PPA: 116 votes, MPPP: 111 votes and LP: 95 votes, among others.

The election’s result was announced by the returning officer for the election, Prof Charles Esemone, a Deputy Vice-Chancellor at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. He says: “Chief Sir Victor Umeh having polled the highest number of votes and satisfying the law is hereby returned elected.”

There was a low turn-out of voters during the Saturday’s election as we previously reported. Of the 745,828 registered voters, only 67,872 voters cast their vote yesterday, representing only about 9.1% participation.

  8. Na so!

Wise people wise choice. We don’t vote as told. We vote our hearts.

    No Godfatherism for us!

APC should remain in the areas where people share their political and religious ideals, una know una self.

  9. My calculation and vision tells me that APC will win Anambra or perform very well come 2019.

The victory of Obiano and APC didn’t challenge it in court.

Now the victory of Umeh when we all know that Ngige will not leave his ministerial position to be a senator is a way of APC rubbing the back of APGA and come 2019,APGA will rub the back of APC by either allowing APC to win the state or allow the results to favour APC very well.

Nobody has the structure of a state more than the governor and Obiano will never want to work for PDP when Peter Obi is still there.

I think there is a deal between APGA and APC in Anambra.
