‘Boys are more vulnerable to rape in Nigeria’ – NAPTIP boss, Julie Okah-Donli

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has stated that boys in Nigeria are more vulnerable to rape.

The Director-General of the agency, Julie Okah-Donli said this is because people tend to focus on the girls while failing to realize that the rate at which boys are also raped is on the rise.

She said this in Abuja at the flag-off of the ‘Cover me’ campaign aimed at exposing perpetrators of child abuse, advocate for stricter punishment for rapists and advocate for a stronger mechanism for preventing approach.

She said during this event that it is annoying how child p---------y is being shared on the internet and promised to arrest anyone who shares such or so much as stigmatizes victims of rape.

The DG, however, said she does not support the death penalty for rapists as it will make them more brutal, leading them to attempt to kill more people in an effort to cover up their crime.

She said: “I do not advocate for capital punishment of death sentence because it will make rapists become brutal because they will not want to leave witnesses and it will also encourage jungle justice with people using it to accuse and kill people falsely.

“Boys are more vulnerable to rape because we tend to focus more on girls so we need to focus on all our children. Now you see a lot of silly videos with people sharing and reposting, If you send it to me I will arrest you for child p---------y, anyone who stigmatizes against victims will be punished. We need to make people know that we are serious.

“During the lockdown, a lot of things were revealed to us, we realized that most of the reports we got was from observant neighbours and not parents.”

This is coming a few weeks after the agency announced that it has started a sex offender register to expose rapists and sexual violence offenders in Nigeria.

Under Nigerian Law, A man cannot be raped

When a man has sex with a woman without her consent (in Nigeria – apart from in the FCT Abuja, only women are capable of being raped).

  7. She’s on point. Boys too are vulnerable, abused by pervs and paedophiles. We should not forget that and more importantly do something about it.
