This is what is being used to treat Coronavirus patients, according to the Minister of Health

Nigeria has recorded a high rate of recoveries from the novel Coronavirus so much that people are being discharged in multitudes every other day.

Undoubtedly, many Nigerians have been curious about the drugs that are being used to treat patients who contract the COVID-19 virus.

Now, the Minister of Health in Nigeria, Dr. Osagie Ehanire has revealed the drugs that are being used in treatment. He revealed this while addressing the members of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, 5 May.

The minister of health said that the popular drug, Remdesivir, is being used in treatment. He said:

“We have been using that (Remdesivir); we have tried that in Lagos too. So, we have tried the antiretroviral drug to see what effect it has.”

The minister said that the popular drug which was originally developed as a treatment for the deadly Ebola disease is being used to treat patients.

Remdesivir was tested in 1063 Coronavirus patients all over the world and has been found to reduce the time it takes for Coronavirus patients to recover by 31%. With Remdesivir, patients take 11 days to recover from the virus compared to 15 days with regular care.

So far, Nigeria has recorded 2950 confirmed cases with 481 discharged patients and 98 deaths.
