This increase is the highest that has been recorded since Bloomberg‘s Billionaires List was started in 2012. Amazon shared surged by 7.8%, the largest rise since December 2018.
Following this rise, Jeff Bezos added 13 billion dollars to his current net worth of $189 billion dollars despite that fact that more than 40 million Americans have found themselves jobless in the midst of the Coronavirus pandemic.
Meanwhile, Jeff Bezos’ ex-wife, Mackenzie Bezos also profited from the rise in Amazon stock, gaining $4.6 billion in one day to become the 13th richest person in the world.
Unlike Jeff Bezos, however, Mackenzie has pledged to give away at least half of her fortune, gotten after her divorce from the tech billionaire.
He is not the only one who has seen an increase in his wealth this year. Tech entrepreneurs have had a good year in spite of the pandemic rocking the world.
Mark Zuckerberg has raked in 15 billion dollars in 2020 despite companies boycotting his company, Facebook over security concerns.
Tesla and Space X founder, Elon Musk has also had a fantastic year, raking in 47 billion dollars in 2020 alone.
