Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar becomes the latest to test positive for Covid-19, as India’s film industry gets caught up in the country’s second wave of coronavirus infections.
Kumar left a post on his Twitter page on Monday revealing he has been hospitalized “as a precautionary measure under medical advice.”
He also confirmed he tested positive for the virus a day earlier, claiming he has gone into immediate isolation, and also asked those who came in contact with him to go get tested.
His positive COVID-19 status means he joins a host of Indian stars who in recent weeks have tested positive for the virus as newer cases of the virus continue to increase across the country.
Aamir Khan, the leading movie producer in India also revealed he contracted the virus last month while actor Ranbir Kapoor has also tested positive.
Kapoor’s mother tells fans Kapoor “is on medication and recovering well. He is in self-quarantine at home and following all precautions” after she confirmed his test on March 9.
Kapoor’s girlfriend Alia Bhatt posted a photo of herself on Instagram recovering with the caption “one day at a time,” following her announcement that she had also tested positive.
The country is currently facing a rise in infections once again and a nightly curfew has been imposed on India’s capital New Delhi and its surrounding region.
On Tuesday, India reported 96,982 new cases which took the total case count above 12.6 million since the virus broke out, according to official figures.
