David Oyelowo to play POTUS in drama adaptation of Bill Clinton’s book, The President Is Missing

Nigerian-British actor David Oyelowo would be playing a US president in Showtime’s drama pilot, The President Is Missing, based on a book of the same name, Variety is reporting.

Former US president Bill Clinton and acclaimed author James Patterson wrote the book, which was released in 2018. The book is also Bill Clinton’s first novel.

The actor shared the news of the casting with fans on Instagram, writing: “I’m running for office in 2020. Who’s with me?! Thanks, @showtime #thepresidentismissing.”

The President Is Missing tells the story of a US vice president who unexpectedly becomes the president half-way into his administration’s first term. He would be confronted with a world-threatening crisis, scandal and conspiracies. Only two choices are open to him: keep his head down, toe the party line and survive, or act on his stubborn, late-developing conscience and take a stand.

The series writer is Anthony Peckham who would also be executive producing alongside David Oyelowo, Bill Clinton, James Patterson, Christopher McQuarrie, Heather McQuarrie, Bill Robinson and Leopoldo Gout.

Showtime bought the right to the book in 2017, almost a year before the book hit the book stand.

Production is expected to begin in 2020.
