Jowhor Ile, Chikodili Emelumadu and Irenosen Okojie make the AKO Caine Prize shortlist| See the full list

The 2020 AKO Caine Prize shortlist is out and of the five writers on the shortlist, three Nigerians made the list.

Jowhor Ile, Chikodili Emelumadu and Irenosen Okojie are the three Nigerian writers who made the shortlist to compete for the £10,000 Prize which is awarded annually for a short story (with a length of 3000 – 10000 words) by an African writer published in English.

Jowhor Ile is shortlisted for his story ‘Fisherman’s Stew’ published in The Sewanee Review. Chikodili Emelumadu made the shortlist for her story ‘What to do when your child brings home a Mami Wata’ published in The Shadow Booth: Vol.2, while Irenosen Okojie was shortlisted for ‘Grace Jones’ from ‘Nudibranch’, published by Hachette.

The Tanzanian, Erica Sugo Anyadike was shortlisted for his short story ‘How to Marry An African President’ published in Adda: Commonwealth Stories. Rémy Ngamije, who is both from Rwanda and Namibia, made the shortlist for his story, ‘The Neighbourhood Watch’, which was published in The Johannesburg Review of Books.
