Boxing: Wilder ‘must dance to my tune’ – Dillian Whyte

After he was called out by one-time heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder, Dillian Whyte says his American rival must “dance to my tune” because he was made to wait three years for a WBC title fight that never materialised.

Whyte was repeatedly frustrated in his attempts to land a fight with the then WBC champion before the Birmingham Alabama born Boxer’s reign was crushed in February by current champion Tyson Fury.

Wilder, amid his inability to agree to terms for a third fight with Fury, has said this week that he would be willing to entertain a fight with Whyte but the Brixton man has responded by criticising the idea.

Tyson Fury is not fighting him, so who else can he make any money from? Deontay Wilder is not a big draw at all,” said Whyte.

Even when he was heavyweight champion, he could not sell out venues, and I think he’s only ever had a couple of fights on pay-per-view. All he does is run around and talk s***.

If he fights with Parker, there’s nothing in it. If he fights Helenius, nothing. If he fights me, it’s the only way he’s going to make any form of decent money.

He’s a coward. Now he’s got nothing at all to lose, basically. He ignored his duties as the WBC world heavyweight champion. It’s shocking he was allowed to do it as well. Absolutely shocking.”

Whyte was due to fight Alexander Povetkin this weekend but the Russian had to withdraw after testing positive for COVID-19.

He says his top priority is to land a world title fight next year but insists he is open to settling his dispute with Wilder.
