Champions League quarter-final draw: Bayern to face PSG in repeat of last year’s final; Chelsea draw Porto

French champions Paris Saint Germain has been handed a tough quarter-final opponent in last year’s finalist and eventual winners of the UEFA champions league, Bayern Munich.

However, they have a shot at revenge after being denied the opportunity of winning one silverware that has eluded them for a while.

The Parisians have invested a lot of money in the squad over the years in a bid to capture the UEFA champions league and were closest to win it in the bubble last season.

Bayern Munich is one of the most dreadful teams in Europe this season but to win the trophy itself, PSG would have to face them at one point or the other.

Another intriguing draw sees Premier League champions Liverpool square off against La Liga holders Real Madrid in a repeat of the 2018 CL final which Real won at the expense of Liverpool.

Well, maybe Liverpool can also take revenge for that defeat despite going on to win the competition a year later.

Chelsea would be the happiest team in the last 8 after being drawn against FC Porto of Portugal. The Portuguese side cannot be counted out as they knocked out Serie A giant Juventus, but they are still regarded as the underwhelming underdogs of the last 8.

The final pairing would see Premier League leaders Manchester City play German outfit, Borussia Dortmund in an exciting match-up. City could also face PSG or Bayern if they progress while Liverpool and Chelsea could set up an all-English affair in the semi-final should they both progress past their opponents.

The Champions League final will take place on Saturday, May 29 at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul, Turkey.

The venue was supposed to host the final of the last edition but COVID-19 happened and the remainder of the matches from the quarter-final stage onwards had to be completed in Lisbon.

The Ataturk Olympic Stadium stadium was the stage of Liverpool’s infamous ‘Miracle of Istanbul’ comeback victory over AC Milan in the 2005 Champions League final.
