Comedian Norm Macdonald dies at 61

Norm Macdonald, comedian and “Saturday Night Live” star of cancer, see 5 interesting facts we have compiled about him.

The comedy icon died on Tuesday, 14 September 2021, after losing his battle with cancer. According to Variety, the comedian battled privately with the disease for almost a decade. 

Jeff Danis, president of DPN Talent and one of Macdonald’s reps, revealed the news to Variety in a statement, which reads in part: “Norm was an original! He defined American humor with honesty and blunt force.”

Meanwhile, “Saturday Night Live” also released a statement to announce the comedian’s demise, saying, “Today is a sad day. All of us here at ‘SNL’ mourn the loss of Norm Macdonald, one of the most impactful comedic voices of his or any other generation. There are so many things that we’ll miss about Norm — from his unflinching integrity to his generosity to his consistent ability to surprise. But most of all, he was just plain funny. No one was funny like Norm.

5 interesting facts about Norm Mcdonald

1. Norm Mcdonald, who was born in Canada on 17 October 1957, was a stand-up comedian, writer, and actor for about 36 years.

2. He got married to Connie Vaillancourt MacDonald in 1988, and they divorced in 1996. The couple had one son together, Dylan, whom they welcomed in 1993.

3. While Norm Mcdonald was battling cancer, he didn’t stop working. His profile on the Internet Movie Database showed that he engaged in voice acting. He gave his voice to the animated series “Mike Tyson Mysteries”, where he played Pigeon. The website claims he was best known for gigs on films like “Billy Madison,” “The Animal,” “Dirty Work” and “Doctor Do Little.”

4. Macdonald’s started his career in comedy at stand-up clubs in Ottawa, and he regularly appeared on amateur nights at Yuk Yuk’s in 1985. In 1986, he made an appearance for the Just For Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal, where the Montreal Gazette heralded him as one of the country’s hottest comics.

5. In 1992, he was hired as a writer for the Roseanne television sitcom, and he later quit to join Saturday Night Live.
