One of Nigeria’s foremost female DJs, DJ Cuppy, an ambassador of the Global Citizen, was present at the event in Brussels, Belgium.
Speaking at the event, the DJ says: “Anything you can do I can do bleeding. I want it to be the dream of every girl out there, to teach the most powerful men in her country something. That will only happen if she is equal and getting her there is all of our responsibility.”
Global Citizen is a movement of engaged citizens who are using their collective voice to end extreme poverty by 2030. They launched their platform for women – She is Equal Campaign- with the aim of securing key commitments from global leaders and rallying cries from artists and activists in support of gender equality.
Other keynote speakers at the campaign were: Anja Langenbucher, European Director of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, the Executive Director for UN Women and Under-Secretary-General for the UN, and Belgium Deputy Prime Minister, Alexander De Croo, who committed on behalf of his government to €3 million (over 1.27b) in funding towards the SheDecides movement.
