Horror films “The Conjuring 3” and “A Quiet Place Part II” battled for the top spot on the weekend box office while “Cruella”, “Spirit Untamed”, and “Raya and the Last Dragon” feature in the top five.
Despite getting a simultaneous release on HBO Max, the film raked in $9.8 million on its first day. This led to its weekend earnings projection rising to $25–27 million (from a previous $15–20 million estimate).
Eventually, “The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It” or “The Conjuring 3” made $24 million in its opening weekend, according to Deadline Hollywood. While this is the second-lowest of the Conjuring Universe, it topped the weekend box office from 4–6 June 2021, toppling the sequel of “A Quiet Place”.
This by no means tells badly on “A Quiet Place Part II”, which has made a worldwide total of $118.2 million. This weekend, it grossed $19.5 million, enough to see it enter the second position. Note that it still has the biggest opening weekend since “Sonic the Hedgehog” in February 2020.
Disney’s “Cruella” comes third with a gross earning of $11.2 million. It had made $43.7 million in the box office during its opening weekend, and a worldwide total of $59.8 million. Also, noteworthy is the fact that the film was simultaneously released on Disney+ as well giving some viewers an excuse not to buy tickets.
American computer-animated adventure film “Spirit Untamed” takes fourth place on this weekend box office. This is its debut outing and it grossed $6.2 million after making $2.4 million on its first day.
Variety says that “Raya and the Last Dragon” comes fifth this weekend with $1 million earned to take its worldwide total to $114.1 million since its March 2021 debut. Here is how the films’ rank this weekend:
4–6 June 2021 box office
1. The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It – $24 million
2. A Quiet Place Part II – $19.5 million
3. Cruella – $11.2 million
4. Spirit Untamed – $6.2 million
5. Raya and the Last Dragon – $1 million
