AFCON Qualifiers: Super Eagles off to Sierra Leone for AFCON Qualifier After Negative Covid-19 Test

The Super Eagles squad has been cleared for tomorrow’s return leg in Freetown against the Leone Stars after having two coronavirus test results come back negative within the space of a week.

Nigeria’s senior men’s national football team, the Super Eagles, have departed the country for Sierra Leone after the squad tested negative for Covid-19.

The three-time African champions are due to face fellow West Africans Sierra Leone for the return leg of their Group L 2022 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Freetown on Tuesday.

Nigeria surrendered a 4-0 advantage to the Leone Stars at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City on Friday, leaving fans outraged and demanding nothing short of a win.

The squad has now had two Covid-19 test results returned negative within the space of five days and are cleared to carry on with the game.

After suffering a shoulder injury in Friday’s clash, Napoli’s Victor Osimhen has not traveled with the Nigerian delegation that jetted off to Freetown from the midwestern Nigerian City of Benin.

The former Flying Eagles cadet left the team camp on Sunday to link up with his club’s medical team in Naples for further assessment.

The Super Eagles will secure a ticket to the Cameroon 2022 African Cup of Nations with victory at the Siaka Stevens Stadium in Freetown on Tuesday.
