Chelsea 3-3 Southampton: Timo Werner finally sparks some brilliance but the Saints snatch a late draw (Video)

Timo Werner showed how prolific he is as he scored twice and assisted another for Chelsea but Southampton managed to grab a last gasp goal in a 3-3 draw at Stamford Bridge.

With the score at 3-2, having gone ahead through Kai Havertz and in stoppage time, Southampton’s defender Vestergaard flicked home a half volley by Theo Walcott to score only his second Saints goal.

Chelsea started brightly on the day as Werner eventually opened his Premier League account with a brilliant opener, selling Jan Bednarek a dummy before dazzling the defenders and then slotting home. The German then got his second shortly afterwards after beating Bednarek yet again, lifting it over Alex McCarthy before nodding home.

Danny Ings continued his superb goal scoring form to drag the Saints back into the game out of nowhere. He rounded Kepa Arrizabalaga before finishing two minutes before half-time, and Southampton got their leveller in chaotic circumstances as another Kepa error from Kurt Zouma’s short backpass allowed Che Adams to score.

Chelsea, however, responded immediately to regain their lead as Werner found Kai Havertz, who also grabbed his first Premier League goal.

Chelsea looked like they are going to win from then on but it wasn’t to be as they were even lucky to survive late chances for Adams and Ings before Vestergaard popped up with the equaliser.
