Manchester City coasts past Monchengladbach, Tottenham through to the Europa League round of 16

Manchester City sent out a message to their Champions League rivals with a dominant 2-0 victory over Borussia Monchengladbach.

Although storming towards the Premier League title, City are missing the Champions League from their trophy cabinet as Pep Guardiola has yet to take them past the semi-finals, but his side are on course for a genuine tilt at this season’s competition following a commanding display at the Puskas Arena.

Bernardo Silva opened the scoring with a clever header following a Joao Cancelo cross from the left before Gabriel Jesus bundled home the second after another header across goal from Bernardo.

It’s now 19 wins in a row across all competitions for City, who go marching on across all fronts.

Tottenham 4-0 Wolfsberger: Spurs cruise into Europa League last 16 after 8-1 aggregate score

Dele Alli was in inspired form for Tottenham Hotspur in the 4-0 bashing of Austrian side Wolfsberger AC, scoring a stunning overhead kick and assisting another two as Spurs coasts into the round of 16.

Alli marked his return to the Spurs starting line-up with a sensational bicycle kick inside 10 minutes and he further sealed a man-of-the-match performance with second-half assists for Carlos Vinicius and Gareth Bale.

Spurs took a 4-1 first-leg lead and did the same thing, scoring four in the second leg as Jose Mourinho took the opportunity to blood some youngsters, with 16-year-old Dane Scarlett registering his first senior assist for the club as Vinicius doubled his tally late on.

The victory provided Spurs a fresh start after a stuttering domestic campaign and sees them become the first British side to qualify for the last 16 ahead of Friday’s draw.
