Mike Tyson vs Roy Jones Jr: Tyson weighs in lighter for return fight than he did for Trevor Barbick fight in 1986

Mike Tyson has weighed 220.4lbs ahead of his comeback bout against Roy Jones Jr on Saturday night.

Tyson is 10lbs heavier than Jones Jr and even lighter than he was in 1986 when he beat Trevor Berbick to emerge world heavyweight champion at just 20-years-old.

The 54-year-old, who has trained intensely ahead of the fight appears to be in much better shape than he was in his last professional fight 15 years ago when he lost after six rounds against Kevin McBride.

As for Jones Jr, the former four-weight world champion has weighed in heavier than he has ever been at 210lbs – hardly surprising considering he started his career as a middleweight.

“I’m pitching punches, everything else is up to Roy,” said ‘Iron Mike’ after the weigh-in.

“If I am running anywhere, I am running right at him.”

Jones Jr, meanwhile, declared: “I want to come out early, figure out my ways to attack him. He’s very dangerous when he’s at his distance.

“He knows my combinations, but not the speed or velocity. He won’t be knowing how I’m throwing them. We both want to beat each other up.”

Saturday night’s exhibition bout will be contested over eight, two-minute rounds. No headguards will be worn and the fighters will wear larger 12-ounce gloves.

Technically the fight can only be stopped if there is a knockout, but the referee has been told to halt it if a cut appears.

The WBC will be remotely scoring the fight with the winner being awarded a special ‘Frontline Battle Belt’ – but the result will be inconsequential on either fighter’s record.

By way of a side attraction, YouTuber Jake Paul and former NBA star Nate Robinson will go head to head before the main event.

“I love the sport, I am made for this,” said Paul who admitted he was hoping to move to 2-0 in his newfound professional career

“It is an opportunity to prove people wrong. I am ready to take the world by storm.

“Nate’s kids, if you are watching, don’t watch the fight, it’s going to be bad. It’s going to be bloody.”
