NBA Roundup: Los Angeles Lakers snaps losing streak with win over Portland Trail Blazers on Friday, Other NBA results

The Los Angeles Lakers snapped out of their season-worst four-game losing streak in the NBA with an important win over the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday as LeBron James puts in a stellar performance with proper assistance from his teammates too.

The leading candidate for this season’s MVP, James, recorded 28 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists, four steals, and three blocked shots to lead the Lakers to a 102-93 victory over the Blazers, marking just their second win in seven games.

Damian Lillard led the Blazers with 35 points and also gave seven assists but it wasn’t enough to prevent Portland from losing its season-worst fourth straight game.

Dennis Schroder after a few games absent due to COVID-19 protocols was back in the fold and he managed 22 points for the Laker, Montrezl Harrell contributed 17 points and nine rebounds while Alex Caruso had 10 points for Los Angeles.

Gary Trent Jr. scored 19 points, Enes Kanter had 11 points and 17 rebounds, and Derrick Jones Jr. provided 11 points for Portland, who shot 38.6 percent from the field and made 11 of 37 from the three-point range. The Lakers, however, shot 42 percent from the field and were 7 of 27 from behind the arc.

Following a very slow start on the night, the Lakers bounced back and in the third quarter, moved ahead for good with an 18-4 burst.

Harrell ended the run with a tip-in to give the Lakers an 82-69 lead with 1:31 remaining. Lillard had just four points in the quarter, which ended with the Trail Blazers trailing 85-76.

The reigning NBA champions stayed in control in the early stages of the final quarter, with Schroder and James registering back-to-back layups to boost the lead to 95-80 with 8:25 left.

James then made consecutive baskets later in the game to push the Los Angeles advantage to 101-85 with 3:57 to play and after Lillard scored five straight points to move Portland within 11 he returned to hit two free throws with 46.8 seconds left as the Lakers closed out for the win.
