Premier League Roundup: Chelsea and Tottenham share the points with nothing to separate them; Arsenal lose at home yet again

Tottenham returned to the top of the Premier League standings despite a barren draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Chelsea had hoped to mark owner, Roman Abramovich’s 1,000th game at the club with three points but were frustrated by a Spurs team managed by former boss, Jose Mourinho.

Having been leapfrogged by Liverpool on Saturday, Spurs are back level on 21 points but ahead with a better goal differential.

Chelsea on the other hand, sit third with 19 points.

Tammy Abraham fluffed three scoring opportunities in the second half before Mason Mount and Olivier Giroud saw late efforts saved by Hugo Lloris, but Chelsea rarely threatened as Spurs produced a hallmark Mourinho defensive display.

Reactions

Frank Lampard: “It went as I sort of expected. I thought we’d have a lot of possession. We created enough to win the game.”

“The clean sheet factor against a side set up to counter-attack – that was excellent. We didn’t give Harry Kane or Son Heung-min a sniff.”

Jose Mourinho said: “The game did not have many chances. It is a game where we both wanted to win. We respect each other.”

“Nobody gambled. Nobody tried to change the direction of the game. Everybody was thinking ‘one mistake, we get punished’.”

Arsenal 1-2 Wolves: The Gunners lose for the 5th time this season

Premier League Matchday 10

Arsenal‘s poor form at home continued with defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers as goals from Pedro Neto and Daniel Podence on either side of Gabriel’s equalizer saw Nuno Espirito Santo’s men come away from the Emirates with all three points on Sunday night.

Raul Jimenez came off worse after a nasty head collision with David Luiz early on in the game and was subsequently rushed to hospital unconscious but it didn’t deter Wolves as they enjoyed their first win at Arsenal since 1979.

Poor defending gave room to Neto who fired in a rebound from an Adama Traore cross in the 27th minute of the game, but the Gunners levelled from a rare first-half attack when Gabriel nodded in Willian’s corner a few minutes later.

However, a brilliant individual display from Podence ensured the visitors got back the advantage just before the break, and despite an improved second-half performance from Arsenal, they fell to their third home defeat in a row.

A year to the day from Unai Emery’s dismissal, they now sit 14th, six places below their position when the former manager was sacked, and eight below Wolves who rise to sixth.
