Premier League Roundup: Manchester City move into second with an emphatic victory over Palace; Spurs win at Bramall lane

John Stones has been a revelation this season forming a solid partnership with Dias at the heart of City’s defence and also helped Pep Guardiola’s side with two goals in their 4-0 thrashing of Crystal Palace on Super Sunday.

Manchester City who played hours after Liverpool and Premier League leaders Manchester United shared a goalless draw, took full advantage of the result to move within two points of the top spot with their fifth successive league victory.

Stones fired City ahead with a header from a cross from the boots of Kevin de Bruyne as the Belgian made it 100 assists in all competitions since joining the club in 2015.

Ilkay Gundogan added City’s second on the night from the edge of the box shortly after the break then John Stones who had previously never scored in the Premier League for City, then smashed in his second from a corner to make it three.

The hosts were in complete control for the entire duration of the match and Raheem Sterling curled in a free-kick for City’s fourth.

Guardiola’s side can go top if they win their game in hand, while defeat means Crystal Palace remain 13th.

Sheffield United 1-3 Tottenham: Harry Kane, Tanguy Ndombele, and Serge Aurier score in Spurs win

Premier League Roundup

Tanguy Ndombele and Harry Kane both scored stunners to fire Tottenham into the top four while Sheffield United’s troubles continued with a 3-1 defeat at Bramall Lane on Super Sunday.

The Blades had only just claimed their first league win of the season against Newcastle on Tuesday but Spurs quickly brought them back down to earth as Serge Aurier headed Jose’s men ahead inside five minutes.

The captain of the side Harry Kane added a second with a brilliant individual effort shortly before half-time.

Sheffield looked likely to stage a second-half comeback after David McGoldrick scored his 6th goal of the season to bring them back into the game, but their challenge was extinguished by a goal-of-the-season contender from Ndombele three minutes later.
