Premier League: Harry Kane and Son combine again as Spurs win at Turf Moor; Brighton and West Brom share points

Heung-Min Son and Harry Kane continued in their deadly vein as they once again combined and scored the only goal to help Tottenham eventually break a stubborn Burnley defence and win 1-0 at Turf Moor on Monday night of 26 October 2020..

Son scored the match winner with less than 20 minutes remaining and with what  was the Spurs’ first attempt on target, as the Korean headed home a Kane’s flick-on from a corner.

The Spurs duo, Kane and Son, earned a spot behind former Chelsea pair Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard on the competition’s all-time list as they have now combined 29 times for a Premier League goal.

Kane also proved instrumental defensively on the night as he made a goal-line clearance to deny James Tarkowski moments earlier.

Sean Dyche say: “We fell foul to a soft set-piece by our standards but I don’t want to over-egg that when we’ve played so well. I thought there was a lot of the performance that was right about what we’re trying to do, especially against this quality of side. We stopped their tempo, kept key players quiet and we had more chances than we normally do against a side like this. They’re getting fit now, they’re getting sharper.

Jose Mourinho: “Yes, it was exactly what I was expecting. I know Sean, I know the difficulties he can bring to the best attacking team, he’s very clever, he plays with what he has and he gave us what I was expecting, he gave us a very difficult match so congratulations to him and his boys. My players, they didn’t play the quality football that we want, but because of Burnley, not because of us so I think we did a positive game.”

Brighton 1-1 West Brom: A late Karlan Grant’s strike secures a point for the Baggies

West Bromwich Albion’s Karlan Grant powered in a late strike to deny Brighton their first home win of the season as both sides shared the spoils on Monday night.

Premier League Matchday 6

Jake Livermore had unwittingly given Brighton the lead in the first half after Branislav Ivanovic’s clearance hit him before diverting into the net, but the summer arrival, Grant, who was making just his second Premier League start for West Brom, spared the blushes of his captain.

Grant was able to smash an effort past Brighton’s goalie Matt Ryan to snatch a point for his side after Callum Robinson’s fizzing cross was missed by the Brighton defence.

The result leaves Brighton without a win at the Amex this season. West Brom also put another vital point on the board and are now two points clear of the relegation places.
