UEFA Nations League: Jordan Henderson and Raheem Sterling ruled out of Iceland clash at Wembley

Jordan Henderson and Raheem Sterling will miss England’s Nations League match against Iceland at Wembley on Wednesday because of injury.

The duo of Jordan Henderson and Raheem Sterling will play no further part for England in the current international window after being excused from camp because of injury.

Sterling missed the last match against Belgium with a calf injury while Liverpool captain, Henderson, was taken off at half-time as a precautionary measure after complaining of tightness in his leg.

Both players have been sent back to their clubs for “further assessment” ahead of the resumption of Premier League football this weekend.

Liverpool resumes the Premier League over the weekend and is set to face Leicester at Anfield on Sunday.

Jordan had a bit of tightness at half-time and felt he couldn’t carry on,” said Southgate.

Speaking before kick-off, Southgate said: “Raheem felt something a couple of days ago and didn’t train on Friday as a precaution. He started training on Saturday and wasn’t really happy with it. We have discussed it and it isn’t one to take a chance on.”

Manchester City takes on high flying Tottenham at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday while Liverpool welcome Leicester to Anfield on Super Sunday.

England, who have failed to qualify for the Nations League finals after losing 2-0 to Belgium, will now face Iceland in a dead rubber game at Wembley on Wednesday.
