Wilfred Ndidi scores as Leicester City go top of the Premier League after win over Chelsea

Leicester City enjoyed a smooth ride against Chelsea at the King Power Stadium on Tuesday night as first-half goals by Wilfred Ndidi and James Maddison earn the Foxes a 2-0 win over the Blues.

The win also powered Leicester City to the top of the Premier League as Brendan Rodgers secured his first career win against Chelsea.

Nigerian midfielder Wilfred Onyinye Ndidi put the Foxes in the driving seat as early as the 6th minute of the game following a well-worked corner.

Jamie Vardy nearly made it 2 for the hosts on 34 minutes but was kept out by a touch from Blues goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.

Chelsea were almost handed a chance to draw level on 38 minutes when they were awarded a penalty following a foul on Christian Pulisic by Jonny Evans, but a VAR review showed the offence had taken place just outside the area.

Mason Mount struck the resulting free-kick over the crossbar and seconds later, Maddison struck to make it 2-0 after a poor defensive effort from the London side.

Leicester City could have very well scored more if James Justin and Youri Tielemans had hit their targets when they struck.

And after 19 matches played, Leicester sits atop the Premier League standings with 38 points, one ahead of Manchester United, who have played a match fewer and face Fulham on Wednesday.

Chelsea however currently lie eighth on 29 points.
