As a creative in the music industry, a brutal couplet has to be the most valuable asset every pop star or musician wields. Be it a sumptuous rhyme or hard bar, lyrics illuminate and elevate a song. Words have hidden meaning in songs and while some bring clarity and drama, others might be an opening or a secret passage to an artist’s internal life.

As far as music lyrics were concerned, “WAP” came out on top of Google’s Year in Search 2020. Rappers Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion united for one of 2020’s most controversial hits, full of explicit lyrics that, it turns out, many just couldn’t stop looking it up.

While Cardi and Meg took the No. 1 spot on the search list, Jason Derulo and Jawsh 685’s “Savage Love” became the second most searched lyrics on google in 2020. Note that while Megan Thee Stallion and Beyonce also have a song together titled “Savage”, theirs did not make this list.
Other entrants on the list include Tekashi 6ix9ine with “GOOBA”, which went bonkers upon release, DripReport with “Skechers”, BTS with “Dynamite”, and a host of others.
Cardi B’s “WAP” sitting atop the list is no surprise as the song hit Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart in September 2020. It also managed three straight weeks at the top, giving both Cardi and Meg their first UK Number 1 singles.
