A number of the 2020 round of awards have already been announced and Sidomex Entertainment previously reported that the 2020 Nobel Prize for Literature was awarded to Louise Gluck.
On Friday, 9 October, it was also announced that the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to the World Food Programme for its efforts to combat a surge in world hunger amid the Coronavirus pandemic.
The Nobel prizes in Physics, Chemistry, and Medicine/Physiology have also been announced, with women taking up a number of spaces at the winner’s table.
Emmanuelle Charpentier and Jennifer A. Doudna jointly received the Nobel Prize for Chemistry for their work on the development of Crispr-Cas9, a method for genome editing.
The Nobel prize for Physics was jointly awarded to Roger Penrose, Reinhard Genzel and Andrea Ghez for their work on black holes.
The Nobel prize for Medicine/Physiology was awarded to Drs. Harvey J. Alter, Michael Houghton and Charles M. Rice for the discovery of the Hepatitis C virus.
Normally, the prizes are presented in Sweden during a ceremony, but this is impossible because of the Coronavirus.
The Nobel committee also announced an increase in the prize money. It has been increased to 10 million Swedish Krona, one million more than last year.
