1. Apply Coconut Oil
One of the major causes of dandruff is skin dryness and dehydration. Coconut oil helps to improve skin hydration and prevent dryness. Coconut oil serves as a mineral oil and cures eczema (one skin condition that contributes to dandruff). The application of coconut oil to the skin and hair can reduce the embarrassment caused by dandruff. You can apply the oil to your scalp at night, and wash it off in the morning with good shampoo. Coconut oil is another amazing anti-fungal food that kills fungus and eliminates dandruff.
2. Try Aspirin
Salicylic acid is one of the major compounds found in aspirin that is totally responsible for its anti-inflammatory properties and can also be found in many anti-dandruff shampoos. Aspirin works by helping get rid of the scaly skin and loosening the flakes on the scalp so that it can be removed easily. Shampoos containing salicylic acid are very effective in reducing the severity of scaling and it produces the same result as a prescription medication for the treatment of dandruff. Try crushing two tablets of aspirin, add the powder to your shampoo before washing your hair. Thank me later!
3. Baking Soda
I’m sure you do not know that there is power in your kitchen, it could hold the key to an itch-free, flake-free scalp. Some everyday ingredients can do more than just satisfying your stomach. They could be effective dandruff remedies. One very effective one is baking soda. Stress-free! All you need do is wet your hair, take a handful of baking soda and rub vigorously into your scalp. After doing that, go straight to rinse it off. What baking soda does is reduce overactive fungi that can cause dandruff. It might cause dryness of the hair for a few weeks, but your scalp will start to produce natural oil after that, leaving your hair softer and free of flakes.
4. Use Mouthwash
As we have already explained, dandruff is a fungal scalp condition, therefore almost any anti-fungal can do the trick. In this case, wash your hair with your regular shampoo (herbal preferably), then rinse off with an alcohol-based mouthwash, then apply your regular conditioner. Mouthwash’s anti-fungal properties help prevent dandruff-causing yeasts from maturing.
5. Salt
Our ordinary table salt can be sweet and abrasive for scrubbing out dandruff flakes before shampooing. How to use? Very easy! Grab a saltshaker or simply grab a spoonful of salt and shake some onto your dry scalp, work it through your hair thereby giving your scalp a salty massage for about five minutes. You’ll find out that you have worked out the dry, flaky skin (a very good evidence will be the flakes that fall on your shoulders) and tour scalp is ready for shampooing.
