Or may be that condition applies only to rising singer Simi, who reportedly told Punch’s Saturday’s Beat that Nigerian men are not romantic.
“I don’t believe Nigerian men are romantic. I think Nigerian men do not think they have to be romantic. I am not saying this to bash men but I think no one pushes Nigerian men to fight for anything so they have this sense of entitlement,” Simi was quoted to have said.
The singer also added that “I was watching a Nigerian movie one day and there was this unfaithful Nigerian man who left his wife for another woman. At the end of the day, the other woman left him and he retraced his steps to his initial wife. The lady’s mother actually told her to kneel in front of the man and that bothered me a lot even though I knew it was a movie. That is the way things are.”

But that claim has seemingly not sat well with Uche Maduagwu, who begged to differ. Maduagwu, declaring himself to be the biggest actor in Nigeria believes that contrary to Simi’s claim, that Nigerian men are overly romantic to the extent that they’re suffering from it. But the actor seems to confuse gift-giving with being romantic. He also totally ignored the larger point of Simi’s argument, namely that the Nigeria society tends to forgive men easily for bad behaviours in their relationships. Maduagwu also joked (hopefully) that he could only date Simi when she retracts and apologises for her statement, and asked that no one should beg him… So he’s joking then! But even if not, we doubt if Simi will lose any sleep over that.
