Dino Melaye wins best senator in Kogi State since 1999


The controversial senator representing Kogi West at the 8th Assembly, Dino Melaye bagged an award as the best senator in Kogi State, since 1999.

 

The award was presented to him by Conference of Nigeria political parties Kogi State chapter.

 

Daniel Dino Melaye was born in the city of Kano. He was a student union leader at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria where he studied Geography. At the time, he also led the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS). He later became the secretary general of African Youth Council and then that of the Commonwealth Youth Council. His achievements won him the African youth of the year award, chosen from among other 54 competing Commonwealth citizens in 2005. Thereafter, he was appointed by President Olusegun Obasanjo to chair the Presidential Advisory Council on Youths.

 

 

On his humanitarian endeavours in Kogi State, over 30 undergraduates are enjoying scholarships under his education empowerment fund. He has also sank boreholes in various villages in his constituency, and has donated drugs worth several millions of naira to hospitals in various villages and has instituted a continuous widow empowerment program.
