A Pakistan woman, Aasia Bibi, has been arrested in a small village in central Pakistan in connection to the death of 18 people, including her husband.
The 21 year old suspect had allegedly poisoned her husband’s milk which he failed to drink before his mother then used the poisoned milk to prepare a traditional drink that she served to as many as 27 members of the family.
The deceased husband Mohammad Amjad had also partaken in the locally prepared yogurt that killed him and his two brothers, three sisters-in-law and other relatives.
Aasia had confessed that she never wanted to marry Mohammad who was her cousin as she was already in a relationship with Shahid Lashari but her parents forced her into the marriage despite her warning them that she will go to any length to terminate the union.
Both Aasia and Lashari are in police custody along with Aasia’s aunt who both said was involved in the plot to kill Mohammad and who they claimed also arranged secret meetings for the lovers even after her marriage.
A village elder vowed to behead all those involved in the murder if he got hold of them to restore the honor of the village. Aasia’s mother however regrets forcing her daughter to marry a man she had no love for.
The local Chief of Police in the village Zulfiqar Ali discovered during investigations that the rat poison used was supplied by Lashari and he said the suspects would remain in custody of the police until they appear in court on November 14.
