David Oyelowo joins the cast of Peter Rabbit sequel

British-Nigerian actor David Oyelowo would be joining the cast of Sony Picture’s Peter Rabbit  2.

The film is reportedly a live-action hybrid sequel to the 2018 family hit, according to Variety.

The actor will be joining the all-star returning cast of the first Peter Rabbit including Rose Byrne, Domhnall Gleeson and James Corden in the voice of the mischievous Peter Rabbit. It also looks like that production would include many of the original crew. Will Gluck returns as the director and would also be producing with Animal Logic’s Zareh Nalbandian, The screenplay is by Gluck and Patrick Burleigh.

Details of the plot are scanty but according to Variety, the story follows “the adventures of Peter as he continues to stir up trouble with his fellow furry friends.”

Oyelowo’s role has also not been revealed but it is suggested it will be a live-action role like Gleeson and Byrne’s.

The first Peter Rabbit film was a hit globally, taking in over $350 million worldwide, including $115 million domestically. It became Sony Pictures’ highest-grossing film outside of the James Bond franchise ever in the U.K.

So, we consider this new gig as another big-ticket project for David Oyelowo who has also had a leading role in the BBC and PBS Masterpiece six-part adaptation of Les Miserables. He was an executive producer of that project as well.

Peter Rabbit 2 is slated to be released on 7 February 2020.
