Filmhouse opens first-ever MX4D cinema in West Africa

One of Nigeria’s cinema powerhouses Fllmhouse Cinemas has opened its first-ever MX4D cinema in Nigeria.

The new structure brings the number of cinema houses owned by the company to 11, four of which are located in Lagos.

The new structure, a 319-seat multiplex is located at Landmark Village, Victoria Island, Lagos. The MD4X structure is the first of its kind in West Africa and also boasts of four Real 2D screens, a bar, and The Cube, a luxurious screening room with private dining and a children’s play area.

Filmhouse first announced the plans for the development in July 2018 when Vice President Yemi led a public-private investment delegation to showcase Nigeria’s improved business environment to investors. At the time, Filmhouse signed an agreement with American cine-tech giants MediaMation, creators of MX4D technology.

Speaking at the opening of the MX4D structure over the weekend Filmhouse Group CEO, Kene Okwuosa, tells the guests:

We continue to innovate in an effort to provide more choice and enhanced viewing for our guests. Coca-Cola MX4D allows viewers to not just see the movie in 3D, but to feel as if they are part of the action, experiencing the weather, smells and motion in exciting sequences.”

An Instagram post about the new cinema also aims to highlight what viewers should expect at the new cinema. The post reads:

Great news! We’ve just opened the first MX4D screen in west Africa, at Landmark Village, Victoria Island. MX4D provides an immersive environment where you feel the action on the screen from the built-in motion and effects in the seats and theatre around you.

Your MX4D seat will move in sync with the movie action and special EFX generators in the cinema allowing you to “feel” the movies motion, jolts, pokes, wind, water even scents. It’s an experience you can’t afford to miss. Our doors are open and waiting for you all!

With the opening of the MX4D, Film once again proves to be at the forefront of bringing the latest cinema technology to Nigeria. It is on record that the company operates the only IMAX cinema in Nigeria, something none of their competition has managed to do so far.

Outside of Lagos, Filmhouse can be found in Kano, Port Harcourt, Benin City, Ibadan and Akure.

If you live in Lagos, will you be visiting the Filmhouse MX4D cinema any time soon? Share with us in the comments section.
