As Netflix continues to acquire more African content for its platform, some Nigerian filmmakers continue to benefit from the initiative.
The latest Nollywood movie to be catalogued by the streaming giant is Ebony Life’s Chief Daddy, one of the biggest film of 2018. Certainly, a piece of good news for those who missed the cinema run as well as for those who just want to relive the lively comedy. Between these groups and Mo Abudu’s Ebony Life, the writer is not sure, though, who is the bigger winner. Perhaps not any of these groups. Maybe it’s Nollywood as the industry continues to make waves.
Mo Abudu was the proud announcer of the latest milestone by the media powerhouse, writing on Instagram:
“Good morning beautiful people,” she begins. “We are excited to announce that Chief Daddy, Nollywood’s biggest film of 2018 will be available to viewers around the world on Netflix from March 15th! How cool is that?“, she rhetorical questions.
Very cool indeed, ma’am (tongue-in-cheek).
Chief Daddy tells the story of billionaire industrialist, Chief Beecroft, a flamboyant benefactor to a large extended family of relatives, household staff and assorted mistresses. His sudden death shocks everyone who also wants to benefit from the sad event. But the chief has got some trick up his sleeves as was revealed once the will was read.
The movie boasts of a star-studded cast, including almost every single Nollywood fave such as Joke Silva, Funke Akindele, Patience Ozonkwor (Mama G), Ini Edo, Kate Henshaw, Rachel Oniga, amongst others.
The movies debuts on Netflix come 15th March 2019.
