Beyonce’s New Music | Listen on Sidomex

Beyonce and her character, Nala in Lion King remake

As fans wait eagerly for 19th of July to roll by, Beyonce has just dropped a new single titled, Spirit. Spirit is the first song off of her upcoming album, The Lion King: The Gift.

The single, which dropped Tuesday midnight, is an inspirational song that captures the spirit of the gospel and features a late key change. On it, Beyonce sings: “Spirit, watch the heavens open/ Spirit, can you hear it calling?/ Your destiny is coming close/ Stand up and fight.”

The powerful track, also appears in the film, The Lion King, during a pivotal scene with Beyoncé’s character, Nala and appears on the Walt Disney Records original motion picture soundtrack and on The Lion King.

Of the Beyoncé-executive produced and curated album, Lion Ling: The Gift, Beyonce said the album features some of her favourite artists. “This is sonic cinema,” says Queen Bey in a statement. “This is a new experience of storytelling. I wanted to do more than find a collection of songs that were inspired by the film. It is a mixture of genres and collaboration that isn’t one sound. It is influenced by everything from R&B, hip-hop and Afro Beat.”

I wanted to put everyone on their own journey to link the storyline,” continues Queen Bey. “Each song was written to reflect the film’s storytelling that gives the listener a chance to imagine their own imagery while listening to a new contemporary interpretation. It was important that the music was not only performed by the most interesting and talented artists but also produced by the best African producers. Authenticity and heart were important to me.”

In an Instagram post announcing the album, Disney describes it as “a global recording artists and steeped in the sounds of Africa.” The album has a release date of 19th July 2019, which coincides with that of the Film, something fans will be mad about.
