Watch the trailer for Abba Makama’s The Lost Okoroshi featuring at TIFF Discovery
Following the success of his film Green White Green, which was featured t the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), filmmaker Abba Makama is out with another banger titled, The Lost Okoroshi.
The film has been selected to feature in TIFF Discovery Programme at this year’s festival that will run from 5th to 15 September 2019.
A cultural adventurous film starring Seun Ajayi, Ifu Ennada, Chiwetalu Agu and more, The Lost Okoroshi follows a young man, stuck in a job he doesn’t enjoy, who begins experiencing visions of his ancestors. The experience results in him transforming into a traditional masquerade, a masked performer who channels spirits through dance, which sounds fun and all … until he has to go to work the next day in full performance garb. What follows looks to be a Kafkaesque story of a man torn between two worlds.
Speaking about the film in an official statement, Abba Makama says:
“I want Africans to keep in touch with their cultures and traditions and globalisation makes it increasingly difficult for us to connect with our past.
“Masquerades have generally been demonised and considered bad omens in western religions. With this project, I aim to change the narrative and reintroduce the masquerade as a colourful, playful and benign entity.”
The Lost Okoroshi is part of TIFF’s Discovery programme which boasts of 37 films from emerging filmmakers who represent 35 countries.
