Despite it being a quarter of a century since the movie hit the cinemas to wide acclaims, the casts of the musical movie “Sister Act” are still very much in touch with their angelic voices.
For the movie’s 25th anniversary, Whoopi Goldberg and much of the cast met up on the TV show “The View”, which Goldberg co-hosts, to perform their hit song from the film, “I Will Follow Him.” It was truly magical! And the icing on the cake? Just like in 1992 movie, they all absolutely donned their nun habits for the occasion. And guys, Goldberg and the gang have still got it!
For her portrayal of Deloris Van Cartier aka Sister Mary Clarence in the movie, Goldberg earned a number of accolades including an American Comedy Award for Funniest Actress in a Motion Picture, a nomination for the MTV Movie Award for Best Female Performance and a NAACP Image Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture.
Other notable stars from “Sister Act” include Beth Fowler, who once again plays a woman of the cloth as Sister Jane Ingalls on “Orange Is The New Black,” and 82-year-old Maggie Smith, who played Mother Superior. Smith could not be in attendance, but sent her well wishes via a taped recording: “I can’t believe this is happening, and that it was 25 years ago. I feel I must be the oldest nun left.” When asked if she would consider starring in a third sequel of the iconic film, Goldberg replied, “Well, yeah, I would. It would take a script and Marc Shaiman,” referring to the film’s composer.
We would certainly love to see that happen! Watch the delightful performance below.
