Following after the Lagos State government had announced the recovery of four more patients from coronavirus (COVID-19) infection, Lagos state records its first death from the virus.
According to Prof. Akin Aboyami, the commissioner for health in Lagos State, the deceased was on strong immune suppression drugs for a kidney transplant and was admitted on the night of 2nd April 2020 on the presumption of complications from the kidney transplant. He was aid not to have disclosed his full medical history to attending doctors and died from a cardiac arrest.

“I regret to announce the first #COVID19 related death in Lagos state.
“The deceased was 55-year-old Nigerian; a male who lived in Holland but returned to Lagos 2 weeks ago. He had a kidney transplant 7 yrs ago and also diabetic,” the commissioner for health writes on his Twitter handle.
According to Prof. Akin Abayomi, the man didn’t provide full details of his travel history, so he was only being treated for kidney problems. He was later tested for the virus and died after he had tested positive to coronavirus. He died from cardiac arrest.

He did not provide full account of his travel history or medical circumstances to the attending doctors in keeping with global trend and to enable guided treatment for #COVID19 related vulnerability due to severe underlying ill health.

He however demonstrated some signs of an upper respiratory chest infection.
He later tested positive for #COVID19 but died early hours of April 3rd, 2020 from a cardiac arrest.
