Mr Lecturer song by Eedris Abdulkareem is trending following BBC’s Sex For Grades documentary

In their publication of their BBC Africa Eye documentary Sex For Grades, the BBC team reported that the problem of sexually abusing student in exchange for grades has been endemic in Nigeria for decades.

Oh, boy, are they are right! As proved by the song, Mr Lecturer by Eedris Abdulkareem, which released way back in 2002.

In the song, Eedris Abdulkareem sings about lecturers soliciting sex in exchange for passing their female students. At the time, no doubt, many people thought the song was just entertainment. But as we can now see, the song was actually inspired by sexual harassment many female students go through. Hindsight is indeed 20/20 as the saying goes.

Eedris Abdulkareem released Mr Lecturer in 2002 under Kennis Music, and the song proved an immediate hit. In the video, Abdulkareem implored the fictional character of Bimbo Owoyemi as the female victim in the video. As can be seen from the BBC’s Sex For Grade documentary the message in the Mr Lecturer song is still very relevant. No doubt because it’s difficult to prove sexual abuse allegations.

Meanwhile, Nigerians are reacting to the BBC documentary as they recall Eedris Abdulkareem song, Mr Lecturer. Some are even calling for a remix of the song, in the light of the documentary.
