Emmy Award winner Uzo Aduba returns to the New York Theater stage after her 2011 performance on Broadway in Godspell. She is to take the lead role will in another Roundabout commission, Toni Stone by Lydia R. Diamond.
The play focuses on the true life story of Toni Stone, a baseball player who in 1945 became the first woman to go pro in the Negro Leagues. Toni Stone, of course, experienced discrimination from her male teammates while playing.
The play is based on Martha Ackmann‘s book, Curveball, The Remarkable Story of Toni Stone, and it is to be directed by Tony-winning director Pam MacKinnon.
