American legendary wrestling interviewer ‘Mean Gene’ Okerlund has passed away at the age of 76.

The WWE, who inducted Okerlund regarded as the most recognisable interviewer in wrestling history, into the Hall of Fame in 2006, announced the news of the icon’s passing on Wednesday.

“WWE is saddened to learn that WWE Hall of Famer Gene Okerlund, the most recognizable interviewer in sports-entertainment history, has passed away,” the statement read.

The cause of his death has not been disclosed yet.

Several wrestling stars have taken to their social media accounts to pay tributes to him.
