Giannis Antetokounmpo leads winners at the 2019 Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly (ESPY) Awards

Giannis Antetokounmpo has just been named the Best Male Athlete at the Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly (ESPY) Awards held last night at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

in his acceptance speech, the Milwaukee Bucks star assures the audience he was not gonna cry as he did at the NBA Awards. Recall that Giannis was earlier this year voted the MVP at this year’s NBA Awards. He also thanked his family, friends, girlfriend, coach and teammates for their supports.

ESPY Awards recognise individual and team athletic achievements, as well as other sports-related performances. In the 26-year history of the award, this is the first time Antetokounmpo is being nominated in the category, and the 24-year-old beat out four other nominees in the category.

In addition to winning the Best Male Athlete, Giannis naturally also won the Best NBA Player. On the other hand, Alex Morgan was voted the Best Female Athlete.  The US football player plays for Orlando Pride and helped the US female team clinch the just concluded Women’s FIFA World Cup.

Some of the winners of the night include Serena Williams (Best Female Tennis Player), Lionel Messi (Best International Men’s Soccer Player), Mark Barr (Triathalon – Best Male Athlete with a Disability), among other worthy winners.
