StarBoy Entertainment boss, Wizkid, dropped the fattest tune of 2019 titled “Joro” on the 30th of September 2019, four months after he announced he was going to drop the song.
The song, however, was met with a bombardment of separate comments with Wizkid FC hailing the song and many others criticising the excessive adlibs on the song. Another controversy also sprang up when producer Northboi accused Wizkid of reluctance to pay for beats.
The song achieved a couple of milestones just a month into its release and was ranked the top song in Nigerian by radio play. It also hit two million streams on Spotify.
The video for Joro, featuring London-based actress and dancer Georgia Curtis who has Nigerian roots, has over 38 million views on YouTube to date. The video conceptualises the idea that WizKid uses his music to create a spiritual connection with people around the world and it also symbolises the growth and power that West African music is currently having on a global scale.
