It boggles the mind that someone would go ahead and have children and subjugate the innocent creatures to willful hardships, hurt and sufferings. Even if for some reason a couple finds out they were going to be parents and know very well that they are in no position to care for the child, wouldn’t the reasonable and decent thing to do be to give them up to adoption? Why would anyone decide to punish the poor kids? It’s something that the writer can’t get her head around.
So, it’s being reported in several US media that a couple has their 13 children shackled up in a squalid home. Some of the children were even chained inside the house, according to the Riverside Sheriff Department. The incident happened in California State in the US.
They were rescued after one of the siblings, a 17-year-old-girl, who looked 10, escaped and alerted the Sheriff’s Department.
According to the Sheriff’s Department, the children “were being held captive inside the residence by her parents,” and some of them “bound with chains and padlocks.”
However, not all of them were children: of the 13 victims, seven were between the age of 18 and 29, authorities said.
After interviewing both parents – identified as 57-year-old David Allen Turpin and 49-year-old Louise Anna Turpin – they were arrested and charged with torture and child endangerment. Their bail is set at $9m apiece.

California records indicate that a David Turpin received state approval to open a private school, the Sandcastle Day School, on the same block where the siblings were found. A representative for the California Department of Education did not immediately respond to a request for comment, according to the Independent.
