Twitter user, Monisola (@Monaayy) expressed her disdain for such attitude in a series of tweets, which have since gone viral.
According to Monisola, it’s a double standard to expect men to be rich by virtue of their gender while making exceptions for women. It’s a bit like “expecting a woman to cook and clean simply because she’s a woman.”
“Not every man has deep pockets,” she adds. We totally agree with that statement. Being poor or wealthy is not a prerogative of either sex, we think.
Moreover, such an attitude is anathema to the fight against patriarchal norms that women against which women are fighting, Monisola posits.
The Twiter user also posits that it’s alright to not want to have a relationship with a man who is not wealthy – it’s a matter of personal choice – but she strongly advises women to not “shame” a man based on “his financial status.” That is cruel, she says, adding that “money does not grow on trees.”
Roger that!
